We wrapped up our fifth year, and what a year! SALT created a lot of content to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, and worked with our local partners to apply seafood Traceability Principles. To celebrate these achievements, we are sending out two more newsletters over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more about SALT’s work during the past few months!

Tanzania In July 2022, SALT visited its Tanzanian partner’s offices to plan a co-design traceability workshop to be held in September. “Co-creating an Electronic Traceability Strategy for the Kilwa Octopus Fishery” was held in Dar es Salaam from September 19 – 21, 2022, with 131 participants from 15 sectors. It was a huge success!
SALT virtually presented at a United Nations Ocean Conference side event with the Tanzanian government to share SALT’s experience working with governments to apply the Comprehensive Traceability Principles.

Latin America and the Caribbean This blog post highlights the use of the SALT co-designed Traceability Principles and Pathway in the design of the mobile application PescaData launched by COBI in 2021. PescaData fully incorporated 75% of the Principles in its design and implementation and partially considered another 16% of the Principles. Way to go COBI! SALT presented the Traceability Principles and Pathway at the Del Pacifico Live Blue Convention in Mexico and also at an NGO alignment meeting with Iberostar in Peru. Now we are heading to Argentina! SALT will be presenting at Taller: Lineamientos para la trazabilidad de la pesca on December 13 to support efforts to implement a national traceability strategy in Argentina.

Vietnam SALT joined forces with Vietnam's Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD) for the second year to continue supporting the Vietnamese government's ongoing traceability initiatives. This time, we are also including the tuna industry in Vietnam with support from VINATUNA. Learn more here.

Traceability Around the World

World Bank’s CFI-CF Global Knowledge Competition The competition sought innovative solutions that addressed overfishing, focusing on coastal fisheries in four countries. SALT mentored competitors in Ecuador, Indonesia, and Peru whose proposed solutions included aspects of strengthening traceability.
